Mouth Odor Gone With Coffee ExtractFor you lovers of food jengkol or petai, probably a good idea to drink coffee after eating food that smells the breath-maker. The researchers have shown that extracts of coffee can eliminate bad breath. Usually after drinking coffee, the mouth will feel a little sepat and has a distinctive smell. But it turns out that the coffee extract studied by the experts can actually prevent the growth of bacteria that trigger bad breath.

"Everyone thinks that coffee causes breath odor," says Mel Rosenberg, a specialist in the breath of Tel Aviv University, as quoted by LiveScience, Monday (12/10/2009).

"But it's also not wrong. Coffee does have the effect of dehydration of the mouth, and will more so when mixed with milk. When the mixture is silenced, fermentation will occur in the mouth that will cause breath odor," explained Rosenberg.

But the effect was only one effect of coffee. Other effects researchers found just the opposite, namely coffee can eliminate bad breath. How?

Rosenberg and his colleagues tried to analyze the odor-producing bacteria in saliva mouth after consuming coffee respondents. In contrast to previous predictions, the researchers instead found that components in coffee may prevent the growth of bacteria and bad breath. Components of unknown name was actually inhibit the growth of bacteria that cause breath was delicious in the mouth.

Finally Rosenberg was trying to isolate the component inhibitors (anti-) bacteria are to be further investigated.

In the meeting of the International Society for Breath Odor Research in Germany, Rosenberg said that these findings can be used as a reference by industry actors mouthwash (desserts), candy mints and chewing gum to develop mouth odor removal products.

"What can be used for these industries are not coffee, but the active component of the coffee extract that is still in our study to this point," said Rosenberg.
