With Teeth , Blind Can See Again

With Teeth , Blind Can See AgainTips For Health . A doctor in America who put teeth in the eye lens was given a blind woman. This is the first tooth embedded in the eyes of the blind in America. Nine years of suffering from blindness, Sharron Thornton almost killed himself because of depression. But his desire to kill himself lost when he knew he could see again through the tooth embedded in his eye doctor.

Researchers from the University of Miami Bascom Palmer Eye Institute offers a new technique for those who can not see. Technique called a canine or cuspid done by instilling (implantation) teeth as a basis for putting the eye lens on it.

"Two weeks after surgery, the sharpness of vision looks normal again," said Dr. Victor Perez, a professor of ophthalmology and cornea specialist, as quoted by CNN, Friday (18/9/2009).

Thornton is a restaurant manager and mother of three children in Smithdale, Mississippi. He lost his eyesight in 2000 after exposure to Stevens-Johnson syndrome caused by drugs he used to drink.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome is a syndrome that is extremely rare. Patients usually have symptoms of skin that is red and purple-colored, leather upper die and fall. If the symptoms are very severe loss of hair, nails and the whole skin. This syndrome also attack the cornea.

The symptoms were a reaction between the membrane skin and mucous membranes with drugs or infection. However, suffered blindness Thornton was able to overcome by experts in the U.S. operations without waiting for a donor eye.

"Engineering Modified operation called Osteo-Odonto Keratoprosthesis (MOOKP) proved effective for the blind men who corneas damaged," said Perez.

First procedure of healthy teeth taken from the patient, then carved and adjusted tooth size with the size of the eye, and then planted in the flesh is in the eye. Used dental experts because of the structure and composition are strong and not easily damaged.

Thornton now can see again, although her eyes were not pleasing to the eye, but he did not care. "I can see again alone makes me feel very grateful," said Thornton.

Previous researchers in Spain has also developed an instrument that can make the blind see through the tongue. Tool called Brain Port is placed in the tongue of the blind, and working through sensation or stimuli from the outside.
